Blue Mussels

SRO, REX Oysters – Spat

Richmond River experimental (REX) oyster spat are as genetically diverse as wild oysters but demonstrate a natural resistance to QX (Queensland unknown) disease. These oysters are decendants of naturally selected oysters and have persisted and thrived in areas strongly affected by QX.

SRO, DPI Oysters

We use broodstock that have been genetically selected by the Departement of Primary Industries in New South Wales to resist the effects of the parasite Marteilia sydney causing QX disease and Bonarmia roughleyi (Winter mortality)

Flat oysters

The Victorian Shellfish Hatchery has a long-standing partnership with The Nature Conservancy (est. 2014) producing Flat Oyster spat for restoration of endangered shellfish reef habitat. The ‘Reef builder’ initiave was developed with the help of the Victorian Shellfish hatchery and has since been launched Australia-wide.

We are currently working with Victorian producers to develop commercial quantities of flay oysters for the seafood industry.
